My Datastorm satellite internet is back working

I finally got my satellite internet connection working again.  I replaced both the transmit/receive assembly and the feed horn.  Since it wasn’t much more money on eBay I installed an upgrade two watt transmitter to replace the old one watt one.

Now that I have a reliable internet connection again (I hope) I’ll be posting more on the blogs again.

I’ve lost around 40 pounds in 6 months

I now know how much weight I lost in the six months since I came back to Nevada from California, 40 pounds!  When I left there I was around 245 or so, I just weighed myself and I weigh 204.

I’m not on any real diet, I just cut out all soda and I’m eating reasonable portions in the RV instead too large portions of fast-food.

Most days I have a waffle with syrup for breakfast with tea or coffee.  A sandwich for lunch and maybe a small plate of spaghetti or fettuccine alfredo for dinner.

Today since I’m in town I had a chicken burrito and some chips with salsa at Baja Fresh for lunch.  And a root beer soda as a treat.  Since I usually only come into town every two weeks or so the extra calories don’t affect me.

Tomorrow morning I stop at Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Home Depot to pick up supplies and head out to the Volunteer camp host position at Echo Bay on Lake Mead.  I probably won’t be back into town until mid-July.  If I really need something I’ll drive the 25 miles to Overton instead of the 60 miles to Las Vegas.

I’ve lost weight living out at the lake

I’ve found out just how bad staying with friends in California was for my waistline. We ate out every day, pizza, tacos, hamburgers, and other takeout food. When I left California in December my waist was over 42 inches, the 42 jeans were a little snug.  Now after six months away, my waist is down to 36 – 38. The 36’s are snug but not too tight and the 38’s are a little loose. I’ve lost around 6 inches in 6 months living out at the lake and staying away from fast food except for occasional trips into town.

Part of it is the portions we ate over there and to a great extent that’s the restaurant’s fault.  Almost everywhere you order food the portions are way too large. And way too expensive.  They should provide smaller portions for lower prices.  That would be better for everyone’s health.  Yes, we could just throw away part of the meal but most people (me included) are going to eat the portion that’s put in front of them. The way most fast food restaurant’s menus are setup it’s hard to order a reasonable amount of food.

Some friends of mine have started ordering just one meal at restaurants and sharing it between the two of them.  That gives each of them about the amount they really should be eating.

Got the volunteer camp host position at Echo Bay

image

My RV at the Las Vegas Bay overlook.

I had a meeting here at the Las Vegas Bay overlook this morning with the campground supervisor for Echo Bay and got the volunteer job. I start as the campground host next wednesday at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.  The campground is about 40 miles north of here.

As far as I can figure my site in the Lower Campground at Echo Bay is the green arrow in this google map.  This is about an hour and a quarter drive up from Las Vegas, about 50 miles from the near edge of Vegas.  The town of Overton is much closer at around 25 miles away so I’ll probably shop there except for a once a month trip to the Vegas area.
